Bridgid Twomey, DVM
Dr. Bridgid Twomey is a shelter veterinarian from California. After receiving her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017, Bridgid completed a Shelter Internship at the San Diego Humane Society in San Diego, CA. Afterwards, she spent several years working as a veterinarian in shelters in California, including time as a Staff Veterinarian at the San Diego Humane Society and as Shelter Medicine Director at the San Francisco SPCA in San Francisco, CA. In her role at the San Francisco SPCA, she oversaw a major change in the scope of work for her department, shifting from an exclusively medical to a medical and surgical department, providing spay/neuter and other surgical procedures to support 5,000 dog/cat adoptions per year. This change required hiring, onboarding and training new veterinary support staff and veterinarians, improving the efficiency of the existing medical protocols, and providing input to project management and contractors during construction of a new surgical suite and prep area. Dr. Twomey is interested in the use of shelter data to drive strategic planning and decision making. She believes that animal welfare organizations should leverage their resources as efficiently as possible in order to allocate resources towards outreach and Access to Care efforts.
Dr. Twomey currently lives in San Diego with her two cats and a dog.
